Mr. Bernhanu Kurse lives in the village of Gotiti in the Southern region of Ethiopia. The area is known for it exceptionally high altitute which results in some equally exeptional coffees. Mr. Kurse inherited his 12-hectare farm from his parents and now works with his children who have also set up there own smaller farms nearby. Cherry is handpicked and sorted by the family and dried in the traditional Ethiopian way on raised beds.

While most coffee in Ethiopia is grown on small, family run farms and processed at co-operatives, Mr. Kurse’s operation is quite unique in that he processes his cherry himself on-site. Single-farmer programs like this enable farmers to deal directly with coffee purchasers to negotiate higher prices.
